Returning to Connect

"You return to connect with what has been lost and left undone."  --Joy Harjo

___

I am writing today with a story and a request.

Years ago, I was taking a trip to Asheville to do a yoga retreat with artist Philip Mullen, and I was confessing to him that I sometimes get down as a creative person.  There are times of drought-- years between publications, new writings, sparks in the mind.

And he said to me, "Have you ever been reading something or looking at a painting and it moved something in you, changed you internally, and you were grateful that the poet or writer or artist put their work into the world?"

"Yes," I said. "Of course."

"Well, if that's happened for you, then chances are it's happened with your work for someone else.  You put your work into the world, and it affects people.  That's why we do it."

Something shifted in me that day.  There was a leveling of the plane in my heart.  No longer was the world divided into Creative People and Me.  Now I saw that we were all Co-Creating.

Many of you know that my favorite living poet is Joy Harjo.  Her words and music live in me, sustain me, inspire me, and help me guide the clients I work with in my Co-Creating practice.

And she has asked for my help.

She wants me to tell you about her new project, and she wants YOU to be a part of supporting it.

Think of this as the possibility of leveling the plane in your heart-- for your dreams.  You Co-Create with Joy Harjo... and who knows what you will be able to Co-Create in return?

Here's the message from Joy. Please click on the link and watch the 2 minute video and know we are all creative, all Co-Creating, all helping each other on this beautiful blue planet to survive and thrive and connect with what has been lost and left undone.

I'm writing to introduce you to my new project: I Think I Love You, An All Night Round Dance. I am excited about this project because it pulls together theater, music and dance in an innovative manner. I am inspired by Greek theater, a stomp dance/funk musical meld, and want to explore romantic love against the backdrop of indigenous freedom movements.

I want to start work on this new piece of indigenous musical theater this fall, but I need your help.

To learn more about the project and how you can be a part of it please click on the link.

I am excited to be part of this new project site by United States Artists to assist artists in funding for their projects.

Thank you for taking a look.

Joy Harjo
